National Symposium on Spices and Aromatic Crops – Strategies for Smart Production, Product Diversification and Utilization
Spices and aromatic crops are cherished since ancient times and revered for their ability to preserve, enhance flavors, and contribute to traditional medicine practices worldwide. These botanical treasures serve as indispensable ingredients in diverse cuisines, embodying cultural heritage and culinary excellence. Furthermore, their exploration of chemical, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical applications underscores their versatility in addressing modern-day wellness and dietary needs. The global spice trade has witnessed remarkable growth in the past few decades, both in terms of volume and value. With an estimated worth exceeding 50 billion USD, the spice trade encompasses a wide array of products, including extracts, oils, and oleoresins, each finding myriad applications across industries. This expansion is indicative of the enduring appeal and evolving utility of spices and aromatic crops in contemporary society. As the spice ecosystem continues to evolve, it is imperative to cultivate sustainable production practices, foster innovation, and ensure responsible stewardship of these invaluable resources. Since 2004, the seminar series has been named SYMSAC (Symposium on Spices and Aromatic Crops) and completed the 10 edition in the year 2021. In response to these challenges and opportunities, the National Symposium on Spices and Aromatic Crops (SYMSAC-XI) emerges as a beacon of collaboration and knowledge exchange. By convening the leading scientists working on spices and stakeholders, this symposium offers a unique platform for critical dialogue and interdisciplinary engagement with a specific focus on the following themes.
Theme 1: Strategies for climate-resilient varieties for sustainable production
Theme 2: Advances in production systems of spices and aromatic crops
Theme 3: Integrated soil and plant health management
Theme 4: Nutraceuticals, novel products and processes
Theme 5: Food safety, value chain, and business innovations
Theme 6: Socio-economics, trade and policy studies
